"SIZE AND RISK: Fracture of Particulate and Fiber Composites with Multiscale Transition from Atomistic Basis"

BRIEF CURRICULUM VITAE OF PROF. BAZANT:

With a PhD in Prague (1963), Bažant joined Northwestern (1969), where he holds simultaneously the Murphy and McCormick distinguished chairs. Member: NAS, NAE, Am.Acad.of Arts & Sciences and 6 European national academies. Received: 6 honorary doctorates, many medals (von Karman, Nadai, Prager, Warner, Newmark, Croes, Exner, L’Hermite, Torroja, Solin, Stodola) and other honors. Published 6 books. With >9300 citations (h-index=43), is among 100 most cited engineering researchers worldwide. Designed: remarkable Kořenov Bridge with exceptional horizontal curvature (1961) and other box girders; is Illinois Registered Structural Engineeer. Research focus: fracture and probabilistic mechanics, nano-mechanics, composites, stability, concrete creep, hygrothermal effects, forensics.
